About this Airport
Airport overview
Opened in 2018 to replace the older Atatürk Airport, Istanbul Airport was built on a scale meant to eventually handle up to 200 million passengers a year, making it one of the most ambitious airport projects ever undertaken. It sits on the European side of the Bosphorus and serves as Turkish Airlines' global hub, leveraging Istanbul's position as a bridge between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East to offer flights to more countries than any other airline. The terminal's design draws on traditional Turkish tile motifs and Islamic architectural patterns.
