About this Airport
Airport overview
Sitting over 2,200 meters above sea level, Mexico City's airport is one of the highest-altitude major airports in the world, which reduces engine and wing performance and often requires longer runways and reduced payloads. It's the busiest airport in Latin America and the main hub for Aeromexico. The airport is hemmed in by the dense urban sprawl of the world's most populous metropolitan areas, leaving little room for expansion — a key reason Mexico built the newer Felipe Ángeles International Airport (NLU) north of the city in 2022.
